Hi Everyone!
Just a friendly reminder…
Who:  Anyone willing to iron, cut, sew and socialize…. oh, and eat lunch.
What: Quilts of Valor Workshop (community service sew day)
When: Saturday, January 26th, 10-4pm.
Where: Main Street Community center, 255 Park Ave, downtown Amherst.
(Old Post Office Building , right between the bowlling alley and the hospital parking lot)
With help from Georgia, the kits are assembled and ready to go.
Here’s what we’ll do … and what you’ll need to bring…
Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies, including rotary cutters and mats, iron and ironing board or mat, we’ll need several ironing boards/surfaces as well. Please bring extension cords.
Also, some of the fabric is wrinkled. Spray bottles with water would be helpful, or simply use steam in your iron.
Brown bag lunch & drink if you don’t want to buy lunch downtown somewhere. (there are several good choices  if you’re so inclined) I know last time some of us brought snacks. Personally I think that’s a great idea. So feel free. Also, bring a friend who might like to help.
Once you sign out a kit, you can use what ever pattern you’d like to create a quilt for QoV. A few months back, Teri Barile put a copy of the QoV sawtooth star in the guild newsletter. That’s what we used last time and it worked beautifully! So bring the pattern with you if you’d like to use that one. What ever pattern you use, please bring it with you. (I do not have copies available.)  (The pattern in the August newsletter might work as well.)
Each kit contains enough fabric for the quilt top, backing, binding and presentation case (pillow case). If you’d like to “share” a kit with a friend or two, and work on it together, that would be wonderful. Or if you’d like to do one on your own, that is perfectly fine too.
There are only a few guidelines we must follow.
They are: the quilts should be twin size, 50×72 is a good rule of thumb.
They must include a label that says “Quilts of Valor”.
The quilt must be in a presentation case. (pillow case)
I think I’ve covered everything, but if you have questions, please email me and I will try to answer them.
Thank you all so much! Hope to see many of you on the 26th. Feel free to join us even if you can’t stay the entire time, come for a bit… We’ll probably be done before 4:00pm…
sew happy,
Kaye
