Old saying, sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you! It seems appropriate as once again I battle bronchitis. In the “what’s fun” department, I’ve nearly managed to finish my niece’s t-shirt quilt top, and did finish a baby quilt. Alas, I’ll not be at the meeting this month for show and tell. Instead I”ll be playing lifesize Candyland at the Library. This month Laura Neuschafer will be our guest speaker, and next month we will “go round the bend with some Gees Bend inspirations from Roberta Lawson from Olla Mae’s.
I was reintroduced this month to the joys of community quiltmaking. Remember, back in the day, when friends got together to quilt? Well, Kaye’s Quilts of Valor workshop provided a nice return to quilting with friends. Even the ironing was enjoyable! And remember hand quilting? Got to share a few stitches with a friend who is learning to hand quilt, and doing a remarkable job. I’m looking forward to NEORQC to put a nice exclamation point on quilting with friends. Piecefully, Sue

Are you on Facebook? Want to join your guild members in a place you can share pictures and messages? Join us in the Lorain County Piecemakers Group on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/groups/LorainCtyPiecemakers. Click on the “Join Group” button and you’ll be approved to join. Group permissions are set so that no one outside of the group can see pictures/messages – so you can share pictures of gifts for friends and family without being worried about them seeing it before you give it to them! Any questions please contact Kelly Grace (email@example.com).
Looking for a challenge for 2013? Want to create a quilt along with your friends? Sign up for the 2013 Block Exchange. We will choose either a signature block or blocks using a challenge fabric – the 2013 Hoffman Challenge fabric. I’m checking with Roseanne at Anna’s Sewing to see if I can buy a bolt of this fabric and have everyone buy the yardage they want from me. Signups are going on until March – the more people that participate the larger and more diverse your quilt will be. Please contact Kelly Grace (firstname.lastname@example.org) to signup or if you need more information.

The first sewing date for Quilts of Valor was a success! Not to mention a lot of fun! I’ve had nothing but good comments…we had a so much fun didn’t we ladies?
I’d like to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to share the day with us! There are still some kits left and I will have those at our next guild meeting. If you would like one, please see me at the meeting.
At the workshop, I cut out a kit and was so inspired by all the sewing going on, I unloaded the car and headed right to the sewing room when I got home.
I finished the top using the SawTooth Star pattern. It goes together so quickly. I made six blocks in just under an hour without rushing! I really enjoyed the time in my sewing room. It’s rejuvenating AND relaxing! Time well spent…
Here are the dates for the the next few sewing dates…
February 23, 10-4 pm
March 23, 10-4 pm
April 27, 10-4 pm
We meet at the Main Street Community Center in downtown Amherst.(255 Park Ave)
I hope to see even more of you at the next “date”. It’s a great way to get to know other guild members while feeling pretty good about helping our wounded veterans! If I can answer any questions please feel free to email me….email@example.com

Another thanks to Kaye and crew for working on Saturday, to make quilt tops for the “Quilts of Valor”. Another thank you to all for participating in the President’s Challenge making pillowcases and baby quilts for Blessing House.
