Stray ThreadsSTRAY THREADS…

Sue Schillig
A month ago many of us from guild were at the NEORQC Getaway weekend. For those who missed, here is a brief synopsis of what we did.  We arrived, stored our sewing machines carefully in our classrooms, and threw our small bag of clothes in our rooms.  Some of us helped get others registered, while others began sewing.  After a nice supper in a room so cold we did not care to linger, we gathered in our classrooms to start learning or to begin a new or old project in open studio. We sewed until we could sew no longer. I know it is time to quit when I am afraid I’ll cut off a finger or sew one in a seam.  Up the next morning to eat, then sew, then eat, then sew then eat then sew.  Bed, and up to eat and sew and eat. Finally, our show and tell and drive home, exhausted.  In contrast, I thought it might be fun to do again this weekend, here at home, with the 2 little ones and their mommy, aunt and a friend.  Grandma didn’t get much in the way of sewing done, but we had fun nevertheless.  If you don’t have the opportunity to go away for a retreat, create your own special place for your sewing retreat! Piecefully, Sue

President MaryAnn Grayson called the meeting to order at 7:10.   There were 3 visitors this evening. MaryAnn asked if there were any addition/corrections to the minutes. Kelly Grace moved to accept as printed and Cheryl Majewski seconded.  Motion passed.

Community Service:  Baby quilts were turned in by Jackie Harned and Kathy Spencer.  Thank you ladies.  10 baby quilts were passed out that needed binding. Thank you for taking these home.  48 pillowcases and 5  quilts were taken to Genesis House.  They were so excited to receive these.

Program:  Karen Neushaefer from Birds of A Feather did a great talk about “One Block Wonders” and how a printed  fabric with repeats can be used to make a quilt that is vibrant and colorful.   She explained how this technique was different that the traditional “Stack & Wack”.  Her quilts were crazy wonderful!  AND  she brought vending!

Quilts of Valor:  Kaye Koler handed out quilt kits with fabric donated from Joann Fabrics.  A sign up sheet was there for sign out of kits.

Old Business: Tickets are here for the Sewing Basket raffle so please pick up a pack or two to sell.

Fat Quarters:  MaryLou stated that there is now 23 signed up for the exchange.  Only  2 more needed.  Think about it please.

New Business:  Mary Ann Grayson and Lynette Thomson had a “Winter Birthday Party” with a beautiful birthday cake for the guild. Thank you so much for the special treat.  Cindy’s Sew Easy will have a Mystery Quilt workshop on April 12 & 13th for $49.  Mary Ann will be taking sign ups for this event.  Cindy’s will also host binding of the Home of the Brave quilts when needed.  Mary Ann also was asked by Brenda Davis from UAW Local 2000 if the guild would like to participate in making jammie bottoms for Genesis House. with more info will be available next month.

Announcements:  Dates for the guild quilt show at the New Russia Township Hall will be October 4 & 5, 2013.  Thank you Dolores Bean for getting this for the guild .  We will need volunteers to help make this a success, so please think of ideas to present at the meeting next month. MaryAnn also brought information regarding having business cards for the guild made for the members.

Judy Riggle made the motion to adjourn and seconded by Carol Doer.  Motion passed.

Show and Tell was plentiful, wonderful and colorful.

Respectfully submitted,

Teri Whidden

2013 block exchangeLooking for a challenge for 2013?  Want to create a quilt along with your friends?  Sign up for the 2013 Block Exchange.  We will choose either a signature block or blocks using a challenge fabric – the 2013 Hoffman Challenge fabric.  I’m checking with Roseanne at Anna’s Sewing to see if I can buy a bolt of this fabric and have everyone buy the yardage they want from me.  Signups are going on until March – the more people that participate the larger and more diverse your quilt will be.  Please contact Kelly Grace (caelijean@gmail.com) to signup or if you need more information.

EASY QUILT PATTERNS – To use for Quilts of Valor

We used this pattern called Bricks and Stepping Stones for Quilts of Valor quilts a few years ago.
