Since all I’ve done is gardening and chicken tending, I’m taking a vacation from stray threads. When I get back, I’m hoping there is new excitement in my quilting life! Sue

Maryann welcomed everyone at 7:00. We had two visitors and no new members.

Pam Scholle reported that we have $7683.64 in our treasury.

Barb Spieker introduced our speaker for the evening, Joanne Hubbard. Joanne is a freelance instructor from Milan, OH.

Jean Ruth reported that the next youth activity will be May 30th at Main Street Amherst.

Everyone is to bring a brown bag lunch. The group will meet in our meeting room in June, July and August.

Teri Whidden said the Community Service report was in the newsletter.

Carole Doerr asked if anyone knew of anyone who was sick. Lynette Thomson thanked everyone for her card.

Rachael Dykes reported that our attendance for Thursday work days has gone from 5 to 18 people.

Maryann thanked MaryLou Brown for doing our fat quarter exchange. There are 14 people participating this year.

We are in need of a nominating committee for this year.

Our guild picnic will be July 9th because there is so much happening in August. The AQS Show in Grand Rapids is Aug. 14th and 15th. Also in August we need workers and entries for the fair. Judy Picksworth will be at the June meeting to help us register fair items.

Sonya Zimmerman reported that Teri Barile does not have the jpeg file for our logo. We need to come up with a logo. It was suggested we use our pin.

Pam Scholle asked for quilts for the Emma Gatewood Show which is May 28 and 29 at the French Creek Nature Center. Last year our guild hung the quilts.

We will have Charm School from 1:00 to 4:00 in June during our work session.

Twenty-one people had items for show and tell.

Looking for things to post on our blog. In January I posted about cutting with a die cutter. Is there something you’d like reviewed? Is there something you’d like to review? Please feel free to send me anything you’d like posted on the blog – reviews (books, notions, patterns), tutorials – either ones you’ve written or ones you’ve found online, etc. Remember this is our guild – you can contribute to the blog as well!

Notes from the President

Charm School (from Joanne):

On Thursday, June 11th, from 1 pm to 4 pm, 37 members have signed up to make the Charm Quilts.

I have a couple of irons and boards, but we could always use a few more. One per group would work, but we can do with less.

I have a few cutting mats I can bring, but I suggest that each group have at least two mats, two long rulers (at least 6″ x 18″) and two rotary cutters.

Since we’ll be using all colors of fabric, any neutral thread works (grey, beige, etc.).

We’ll also be using basic sewing supplies like pins, seam rippers, thread snips, etc.

Several ladies have inquired about making donations for Joanne’s Charm School. Please feel free to donate 5” squares or Charm packs if you wish. I am also asking our long arm quilters to quilt one of these small quilts.

Lorain County Fair:

Please attend this next meeting to meet with Judy Pickworth, Needle Arts at the Lorain County Fair. She will show us how to enter the Fair, the catagories, and answer your questions. I hope we can show a lot more quilts at the Fair this year. Thanks to Ruth Groot for helping us learn more about the Lorain County Fair!

We really need more volunteers to serve on the Nominating Committee for the 2015 Officer Elections. Please consider volunteering to serve as an officer or committee person for the next year. We will continue to grow with your help! Contact MaryAnn at 440-322-1220 if you need more help.

Annual Picnic:

Our Annual picnic will be held Thursday, JULY 9th at 6 pm. Please bring your favorite covered dish, we will provide the paper products and beverages. Call Barb Spieker at 440-988-4107, if you have questions or need suggestions.

AQS Show:

American Quilt Society Show in Grand Rapids, MI from August 14th to August 15th Overnight Trip & Shop Hop. Please bring a $25 deposit to save your space and name a roommate if you can.

Our prayers go out to Janice Good in the loss of her sister. We are hoping to hear improvements on MaryLou Brown as she recovers at home. Your prayers will be appreciated for us, as I (MaryAnn) undergo a knee replacement on June 25th and Barb Cowger Vilagi will have hers on July 6th.

There are a lot of opportunities for members and friends to enjoy OUR Guild. Contact me or any Guild officer or committee members to get more involved.

See you all very soon!
