Thought I’d finish a baby quilt in time for a shower last Saturday, but I guess it should come as no surprise that it didn’t happen.  In trying to figure out exactly what went wrong, I’ve come up with the following conclusions:

1. It was a bad idea to start the quilt a week before the baby shower.
2.  Adding 12 applique blocks, appliqued by hand maybe wasn’t the best choice for a quick and easy quilt.
3.  Cherries and blueberries and peas and raspberries harvest may have slowed me down some.
4.  Since I’ve hardly quilted since the garden was planted, I might not be at the top of my game.
5.  Visits from Grandchildren and visiting grandchildren wiped out entire days of quilt making.
6.  I still am working part time.
7.  I’d hate to say the chickens are a distraction, but they might be.
8.  There are a lot of weeds to pull.  And the Japanese beetles have arrived.
9. I still have to do laundry and cook.
10.  And the number one reason…  Philip Charles arrived on Thursday and I am privileged to add another grandson to the  family.

I’ll probably get that baby shower quilt done before the baby actually arrives…   It isn’t actually due until September.  But then there will be another grandchild due in September…

Happy quilting,
Sue Schillig

Maryann welcomed our two visitors and asked everyone to pick up the papers for the fair that were on the front table.

Pam Scholle gave the treasurer’s report.

Our speaker for the evening was Judy Pickworth who told us everything we needed to know about entering our articles for the fair. Ruth Groot said we could sign up next month to work at the fair.

Karen Neuschaefer reported that it was time to start thinking about membership for next year. Dues of $25 will be collected in Aug. and Sept.

It’s time to elect new officers. Anyone wanting to be on the nominating committee, run for office, or nominate someone should see Lynette Thomson.

Jean Ruth reported that we had 5 girls and 1 boy at our youth Sew-In today. At the end of their session they showed the lap quilts they had made. Next month they will be making water bottle holders.

There were no Sunshine or Community Service reports.

Barb Spieker reported that next month is the guild picnic which will start at 6:30. Plates, paper products, and drinks will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share.

Maryann reported that the bus trip to Grand Rapids will be Aug. 14-15. The cost is @ $150 and will include the hotel, bus, and admission to the show. The bus will leave Midway Mall at 7:45a.m..

Sonya Zimmerman will take orders for the Havel scissors next month.

Orders will be taken for our guild shirts in June and July. There will be tanks, tees, and sweatshirts from $11 to $25.

Karen Neuschaefer moved and Carol Stomieroski seconded that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried.

There 9 people with Show and Tell.

Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Majewski

Looking for things to post on our blog. In January I posted about cutting with a die cutter. Is there something you’d like reviewed? Is there something you’d like to review? Please feel free to send me anything you’d like posted on the blog – reviews (books, notions, patterns), tutorials – either ones you’ve written or ones you’ve found online, etc. Remember this is our guild – you can contribute to the blog as well!

Barb King brought 1 baby quilt, 1 pillowcase, 5 pairs of pj bottoms, 24 Kleenex Pkgs., 7 pairs of nail clippers.

Deb Beard called me to say she was bringing some fabric over and she sure did! Sue Gerbick and Deb sorted through their collection and we received quite an assortment.   I selected all that was baby/kid friendly and then called Kaye Koler to see if she could use any for the Quilts of Valor.

Thank you so very much ladies for your generous gifts, they are greatly appreciated.

We have a community service QUILTS of  VALOR  workshop planned Thursday, July 9th, 10-4 pm at the Main Street Community Center in Amherst. 255 Park Ave. Hope to see many, many of you there! So far I have only heard from 2 people, and one non member. If you can help please do we need you! There will be stitchers, pressers, cutters needed on Thursday. So PLEASE come help us and enjoy the day sewing with friends, old and new! We’ll be brown bagging or head down town to have lunch.

We had a donation of six, completed quilts from Dave and Teri Walter! They are tops that she showed at guild and her and Dave finished them right down to the label and presentation case! Every one! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Fran Chapman also donated money to be used for the mailing of the donation request letters that I’m mailing out to local groups and businesses. Thank you very much Fran, that was SO thoughtful!

I’d like to thank each and everyone of you who came and helped sew, cut and press last month at the Joanne Hubbard workshop for community service. The quilts that will go for Quilts of Valor from that workshop will be appreciated and love by the recipients, more than you know! thank you SO much!

And there is BIG news about a brand new quilt show next May for Quilts of Valor in Iowa. National celebrity quilters like Alex Anderson, Mark Lipinski, Marianne Fons, Mary Fons and Eleanor Burns just to name a few will be there ! It is going to be spectacular!

Notes from the President

Thank you to those who participated in Charm School and Joanne Hubbard for bringing us a great program. Look for Joanne to return this year with her “Strip Club” presentation and workshop.

Reminder that the August 14-15 trip to the American Quilt Society show is a Go and nearly full. Anyone else wishing to sign up will go on our waiting list. Please call MaryAnn for details.

We are still seeking members to run the offices for our Guild. Please contact current officers for details.

I hope you all are getting your projects ready to put in the Fair. Check with Ruth Groot for more information. Thanks to Judy Pickworth for coming to our meeting and explaining Fair entry and categories.

My knee replacement surgery was successful! Lots of physical therapy to do! Thank you for the calls, cards and visits.
