Meetings: 2nd Thursday of month
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: St. Joe’s Social Hall, Amherst
March. Rosanne from Anna’s Sewing center in North Olmsted will be coming and talking about embellishments for your quilts. She will bring things to sell as well. She is not charging us for the program, but is asking that we bring in food items. They have been collecting for their local food pantry and I think all this month you can get a discount if you bring items in to the store when you shop. Feel free to look at the website at www.annassewingcenter.com.
April’s program: We welcome Noella from QuiltersSource in Parma who will be teaching us some “sew easy pineapples”. Yes, I saw the example, and she does not lie! Watch for an email from Lindy later about supplies to bring as we will all be starting the center of our own personal pineapples. I’m so crazy about the idea, I’m starting one in advance just because I cannot wait! Don’t you all wish you could be out looking for programs? If so, there will be a spot for you on our Board! Future programs are being finalized, and we look forward to learning some new (and possibly outrageous border techniques in July, getting an update from Sandy on what’s new and wonderful in our quilting world (hopefully June), and a visit from Monique in May from Quilts & Sew Forth in Mentor. Yep, in May we’ll be stripping! I’m excited about what’s coming this spring, hope you are too! Piecefully, sue
STRAY THREADS… Sue Schillig
I’ve finished a quilt. I’m not sure how long it has been since I could say this, and granted, it is a baby quilt AND machine rather than hand quilted, but at the rate I’ve been finishing projects, we are going to take a victory where we can get it. I’d bring it to show and tell, but I’ll
be missing the March meeting enjoying the entertainments of the windy city with son in law Jason’s extended family. A good time to get away I think. Ah, but the feeling of accomplishment! How rare, and how wonderful after such a long dry spell. It gives me a moment to reflect on both past accomplishments (my aunt and I were just reminiscing about the quilt I quilted with my grandmother in 3 and a half days) and the anticipation of future ones. Uppermost are three– Bekah’s of course, which has been turned for the last time, but still plenty yet to do, another baby quilt for coworker having her first, and a niece’s tshirt quilt that is far from finished but ought to be by June. March brings new things, remembrances of loved ones, and lots of green possibilities. I looked out my back door and one forlorn looking crocus bud was being blown about, but determined to keep its head to bloom in better times. Enjoy this wild month. Welcome spring!

A big thank you to Cheryl Majewski for taking the minutes for the January meeting. Show and Tell was lovely. It is amazing to see the lovely work that has been accomplished from one month to the
next.
Sue Schillig made the motion to adjourn and Marilyn Novak seconded. Motion passed.
The program this evening is Pat Brush and she showed us how to take the “scary” out of quilting with grids. She passed around samples as she told us about each process and we followed along with a handout. Pat showed us that it can be easy and very do-able with our sewing machines. Pat also recommended to start out on smaller projects and get your confidence and then go for it.
Respectfully submitted,
Teri Whidden

DOUBLE DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH
This block can look different depending on how you turn it after it is finished
First you start with a nine patch block
Then you cut each block in half in both directions
Then you use those 4 pieces as the corners in an all new nine patch block
Then you cut that new nine patch block in half both ways
You can make the first nine patch blocks with 5” charm squares. If you start with 5 inch squares, you will use 7 inch squares for your second nine patch, and end up with a block that measures 10 inches, for a 9.5″ finished block.

FEBRUARY SHOW AND TELL
I didn’t get everyone, but here are some of show and tell. Including three quilts of valor, and a stack of pillowcases for community service.
I have attached a pattern for a block called Funky Wrench http://thehappyzombie.com
Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
4 T butter, melted
2 sticks (1 cup) butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 T flour
1 T cinnamon
2/3 cups nuts (optional)
Glaze:
2 cups powdered sugar
5 T milk
1 tsp vanilla
Directions: With an electric mixer or stand-up mixer, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Once combined well, slowly stir in 4 T melted butter. Pour batter into a greased 9×13″ baking pan. In a large bowl, mix the 2 sticks of softened butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nuts until well combined. Drop evenly over cake batter by the tablespoon and use a knife to marble/swirl through the cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out nearly clean from center. Place powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a large bowl. Whisk until smooth. Drizzle over warm cake. Serve warm (we like it straight out of the oven) or at room temperature.
