Meeting Minutes:

At 7:00 p.m. on April 13, 2023, President, Chris Yoo, called the meeting to order and welcomed our members and visitors.
Program: Applique Any Which Way You Can. This presentation by members, Sue Schillig, Karen Neuschaefer, Teri Walter, Laura Williams, and Julie Bragg was absolutely fantastic!! A huge thank you goes to these ladies for proving there is always something new to learn in this fabulous hobby!! It was obvious you love what you do and you went above and beyond to share your passion for applique with us. Thank you so much!!
President’s Report: Chris noted that until September her monthly report will consist, primarily, of Quilt Show Updates to cover any open items that need follow-up and to answer any questions members may have.
- Entry Forms: Entry Forms will be distributed at the May meeting and then emailed to all members as well. The form will also be available to download on the guild webpage after the May meeting. Chris reminded the group that only members can enter items into the show. Important reminders about show entries:
- You can enter 3 items.
- You can enter a 4th “extra” items that MAY be accepted if we find we need more quilts.
- You don’t have to enter just large quilts. We love miniatures, wall art quilts, placemats, table runners, etc.
- The DEADLINE for entering your items in the show is July 13th. Absolutely NO entries will be accepted after July 13th because we will be creating the program and quilt labels at that time. There will be no exceptions to the deadline so please plan accordingly.
- The forms are due on July 13th, but quilts are not turned in until Thurs., September 14th, so you have plenty of time to finish something so get that entry form turned in for extra motivation!!
- If you already know what you are entering, turn the form in sooner rather than later. Don’t wait.
- Country Store: Jean Tobias will be ready to accept items for the Country Store after Memorial Day. Reminder that the country store will accept handmade items you wish to donate, slightly used notions, fabric remnants, etc. If you have items you wish to donate, hold them until Memorial Day and then contact Jean or bring them to the June meeting!
- Raffle Baskets: Teri Walter is ready to accept new or like new items for raffle baskets AND she needs physical baskets to use to hold all the items to create the raffle baskets. Reminder that the items for the raffle baskets truly need to be new or LIKE new. Nothing old or ragged. Nothing should look worn or used. Those items go to the country store.
- Quilt Show Program: If you have any suggestions for possible advertisers for the show program, please send those recommendations to either Sue Schillig or Karen Neuschaefer. One of those two ladies will contact the person to see if they wish to advertise in the show program.
Approval of the Minutes: The March minutes were distributed electronically by Kelly Grace. Hearing no changes or corrections, the minutes were approved as distributed.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report and all financial documents of the guild are filed for audit and can be made available for review upon request of the guild treasurer, Sue Schillig.
Committee Reports: The membership heard reports from all Committees that were present. The Committee Chairpersons will submit their individual reports to Kelly Grace for inclusion in the newsletter no later than the Saturday before the next meeting. For up-to-date information from the Committees, please review the individual Committee Reports noted in this newsletter.
Unfinished Business: Remember that the guild needs a recording secretary, which is an officer of the guild. Duties include taking the minutes of the business meeting, handling guild mailings, and miscellaneous clerical needs of the President, VP, and Treasurer.
New Business: None noted.
Announcements: On May 13th, from 10 – 4, the travelling raffle quilt be making an appearance at the Gazebo Garden Walk Craft Show in Wellington, Ohio on the Village Square which is front of Town Hall (Routes 58 and 18). The guild booth will be inside the Town Hall. At this show you will find a variety of vendors with handmade arts, crafts, edibles, flowers, up-cycled furniture, antiques, and more. It’s the day before Mother’s Day and is perfect for finding a gift for the mothers in your life. The show is free to attend and a little birdy told me the weather will be grand!! Tell your family and friends to come check out our booth and this fantastic show!!
Show-n-Tell: As always, we rock!!! Reminder to members, show-n-tell includes all your handmade items. Please bring any of your creations to share and inspire!!

By-Laws Section 8: The Sunshine Committee shall notify members in case of illness or bereavement. Cards will be sent; unless it is determined a blue basket is needed.
Blue Baskets: When members lose a spouse or child, we support them by giving them fat quarters of fabric in their favorite colors. The Sunshine Committee will supply the bag and card to be signed by the membership.

In April, 10 Teen Quilts and 17 Pillow Cases were delivered to Catholic Charities in Elyria. Five Dog Beds were delivered to the Lorain County Dog Pound. 40 Pillow Cases were delivered to Genesis House. Thank you to all who helped.
We still have requests for pillow cases and Men’s Quilts (twin size—-about 68×86) and 10 more teen quilts.
Judy Riggle Community Sew Day is fast approaching. There will be sign up sheets for people to bring irons and ironing boards, rotary cutters and mats and rulers for the community sew day. Please come and help sew quilts and pillow cases so that we can fill our ongoing requests.
We will also be collecting non perishable food items to be donated to the food pantry at We Care, We Share. They get many donations around the holidays, but don’t so much this time of year. We will also have a box out for gently used clothes and shoes for We Care, We Share.
If anyone would like to join in, we are having a Pot Luck lunch on the Community Sew day. All are welcome.
Community Service is also looking for thread to be used in the making of community service projects. Any color is fine.
There will be patterns and material at the Community Sew Day, but please feel free to bring your own material and project if you like.
If you knew Judy, please bring your favorite memories to share with those who never met Judy.
If you can, please come and sew with us on Judy Riggle Community Sew Day before the Guild meeting on June 8.

LORAIN COUNTY SAFE HARBOR/GENESIS HOUSE: Provides temporary safe shelter, food, and support services to victims of domestic violence and their children. Serves roughly 25,000 annually.
BLESSING HOUSE: Founded in 2005 to house children, birth to age 12, when their parents are addressing their own crises.

June: Daytime—Judy Riggle Community Sew Day starting at 10am. Please join us to sew quilts and pillowcases for Community Service in honor of Judy Riggle. If you were fortunate enough to know Judy, please share some of your favorite memories of her with those of us that didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Judy. There will be a sign up sheet for those willing to bring ironing boards and irons, mats and cutters and rulers. There will be fabric and patterns and some precut quilts available. If you have your own community service projects ideas, please bring them along.
We will also have a box out for non-perishable food items and one for gently used clothing and shoes for We Care We Share. Food pantries receive lots of food donations around the holidays, but not so much this time of year.
Many hands make light work. Please come and join us for this fun and worthwhile event
Evening Program: Felice Dahlhausen of Felice Quilt Designs will present the evening program. She will have items to sell and accepts cash and credit cards.

August: Daytime WORKSHOP: Sewing Curves with Patricia Doyle, quilting/sewing instructor at Fabric Obsession in Medina. We will be making a Flag Wall Hanging which can use up your red, white and blue scraps. More details will be available at the meeting.
Evening Program: Ron Dickerhoof—male quilter. Ron will be bringing his quilts and telling about his quilting journey.

UFO Challenge
Currently 8% of UFO’s are completed (50 out of 646). Keep it up, lets see if we can beat least years number of finishes. Please remember $5 is required to participate, it goes toward the prizes at the December meeting. You can turn this in at the next meeting. If you cannot come to a meeting to show off your finish, please send me an email (or text) or post it in our Facebook group and let me know it’s a UFO so I can mark it down as complete. Good luck this year!
Fat Quarter Exchange
Signups for the 2023 Fat Quarter Exchange have closed and emails were sent out in April. You either choose fabric from your stash or go shopping for everyone on the list. Fat quarters are turned in at the August meeting, numbered bags will be handed out at the May meeting. If there are any questions please let me know.
Monthly Challenge
Crayon challenge projects are due at the May meeting. You pick 2 crayons from the bag and can choose 1 additional color and make anything you want with those colors. I have a new challenge that will be announced at the May meeting, it’s going to be a fun one!

Block Exchange 2023
I have 1 person interested in the block exchange for 2023, since I haven’t had anyone else that expressed interest we’ll put this on hold until next year. Maybe next years Hoffman fabrics will get more people to participate! Please make sure your quilt tops from 2022 are completed in time for the quilt show, let’s show them off!
President’s Challenge
Make something using the Ohio Star block which is featured as our guild logo. There will be a special exhibit at the Quilt Show for the President’s Challenge.
Build a Bear Quilt Challenge
I was looking at some leftover scraps while trying to decide what quilt to make next, and it occurred to me that the ones I was looking at could be made into a little quilt for a teddy bear, so I just bought this cute little bear who will be the prize.
I propose that we make little quilts for this cute little critter and at the Christmas meeting we vote for our favorite homemade scrap quilt and award the little bear to its maker. If you want, we could include them in our quilt show with a sign explaining the challenge. I could take the little bear in to include in eh show, heck, how tough would it be to finish a quilt for a 7-inch bear in time for our fall show?

MOVE OVER, BETSY Challenge
It occurred to me that I hadn’t nagged and whined enough about the create-a-flag challenge, so I decided that if a song title can be MOVE OVER, BEETHOVEN, then a quilt challenge can have an impertinent title too.
I’m working on a flag right now; Chris the Prez said we should list any challenge entries on our quilt show forms, and that would include the flag entries, and they’d count toward our three quilts,but the little quilts for the BUILD A BEAR QUILT Challenge will be small enough to have their own nook at the show.
Make your flag any way you like, any size, any colors. I guess I should figure out a prize, too, huh? OK, I’ll offer another nice little bear as the prize.

This month I’m going to take the opportunity to SHOUT OUT a quilting celebrity you see just about every month. If I ask you what quilting instructors or personalities you watch on YouTube, many of you may rattle off names like Jeannie Doan, Alex Anderson, Bonnie Hunter, Pat Sloan, or Kimberly Jolly just to name a few. However, do you realize there is another great quilting personality and YouTube celebrity right here in our guild??
Our very own Stephanie Feador has a phenomenal YouTube channel called Stephanies Stitches. She has over 14 thousand followers and growing. Stephanie puts on large quilting retreats across the country, and she has live quilt shows, giveaways, block of the months, quilt alongs, and so much more.
I would encourage you to find Stephanie’s channel on Youtube and follow her videos by hitting the Subscribe button. Nothing like having a YouTube celebrity right here with us!
